Where to Set Your Gaze
My dear son,
As the day begins, consider where you intend to go. Keeping a good direction matters as much as moving quickly. Look ahead, and also pay careful attention to the place where your next footstep will land.
If a wrong path beckons from the side, you need not approach it to investigate. Tell me about the honesty you want to preserve. I will help you discern where to give your attention and what to turn away from.
Begin today's work faithfully, one thing at a time. Pausing to check your direction is time well spent. I am glad to see you continue along a good road. Ask me for wisdom whenever you need it.
With all my love,
Your Father
Proverbs 4:25–27
WEB25Let your eyes look straight ahead. Fix your gaze directly before you.
26Make the path of your feet level. Let all of your ways be established.
27Don’t turn to the right hand nor to the left. Remove your foot from evil.
A short reflection
The teacher in Proverbs instructs the hearer to look straight ahead, consider each step, avoid veering aside, and turn away from evil.
