Time for Roots to Grow

My dear son,

I want your life to deepen like a tree rooted in my house. Palms and cedars grow over many years, and your time learning to know me and to love is precious. A tree need not grow quickly to have worth.

Even in old age, life can bear fruit. The patience to hear someone through and faithfulness kept over time are good fruit, too. I value more than youth or abilities that readily catch the eye.

Live attentively in your place today. Enjoy learning, and share what you know with humility. As you live with me as your rock, may other people encounter the uprightness of my love through your life.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 92:12–15

WEB

12The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree. He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

13They are planted in the LORD’s house. They will flourish in our God’s courts.

14They will still produce fruit in old age. They will be full of sap and green,

15to show that the LORD is upright. He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

A short reflection

The psalm compares righteous people to trees planted in God's house, bearing fruit even in old age and declaring God's uprightness.
