Passing On the Love You Have Learned

My dear son,

I want us to build a shared story through every season of your life. Childhood lessons and wisdom gained with time are both precious to me. I see your life beyond any one stage you have lived.

Even as your hair turns gray, there are ways to pass love on. Tell those coming after you about the grace you have received. An honest story from someone who has walked ahead can be a precious gift for the next traveler.

Learn gladly what you can today, and share humbly what you have to offer. I delight in seeing my love reach others through you. May the passing years deepen your life in love.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 71:17–18

WEB

17God, you have taught me from my youth. Until now, I have declared your wondrous works.

18Yes, even when I am old and gray-haired, God, don’t forsake me, until I have declared your strength to the next generation, your might to everyone who is to come.

A short reflection

The psalmist remembers God's teaching from youth and asks not to be forsaken in old age, so he can tell the next generation of God's power.
