Offering a Day of Listening
My dear son,
When you wonder what to give me, begin by listening to my voice. A heart that wants to know the way I love and walk it with me is a precious offering in my sight.
I want to open your ears to hear my will. Let the love you carry become willing action. We can work together as what you understand and how you live come closer to one another.
Listen with care to the people near you today as well. Begin with a small good thing you already know to do. I gladly receive a day in which you share your heart with me and live with the joy of willing obedience.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 40:6–8
WEB6Sacrifice and offering you didn’t desire. You have opened my ears. You have not required burnt offering and sin offering.
7Then I said, “Behold, I have come. It is written about me in the book in the scroll.
8I delight to do your will, my God. Yes, your law is within my heart.”
A short reflection
The psalmist recognizes that God has opened his ears and desires obedient action beyond sacrifices, and gladly commits to God's will with his law in his heart.
