Treasure in a Fragile Vessel
My dear son,
When I look at you, my first concern is not how strong or impressive you appear. A plain clay jar can hold a precious treasure, and I want to fill your life with the joy of the good news.
Do what you can with gladness, and lean on me where your strength runs out. Your limitations do not diminish the message of love I have given you. Its power comes from me.
Today you can meet people honestly, without making yourself seem bigger than you are. Reach out when you need help. I am your Father, and it brings me joy to work with you even in your weakness.
With all my love,
Your Father
2 Corinthians 4:7–9
WEB7But we have this treasure in clay vessels, that the exceeding greatness of the power may be of God and not from ourselves.
8We are pressed on every side, yet not crushed; perplexed, yet not to despair;
9pursued, yet not forsaken; struck down, yet not destroyed;
A short reflection
Paul describes the suffering apostles as fragile clay jars carrying the treasure of the gospel, showing that the power belongs to God.
