Sit beside Me First
My dear son,
Before beginning today's work, sit beside your Father for a moment. You do not have to begin by finding something to do for me. Time spent hearing my words and sharing your heart is precious to me.
As Mary sat at Jesus' feet to listen, keep what you need to hear from getting buried under busy work. The more there is to do, the easier it becomes to forget why you are doing it. Talk with me first.
Carry your responsibilities with love, and ask for help instead of taking everything on alone. Protect the good portion of listening to my word. May today's work grow within the joy of living close to your Father.
With all my love,
Your Father
Luke 10:38–42
WEB38As they went on their way, he entered into a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39She had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard his word.
40But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she came up to him, and said, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister left me to serve alone? Ask her therefore to help me.”
41Jesus answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,
42but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
A short reflection
Jesus tells the anxious and busy Martha that Mary has chosen the good portion by listening to him, and it will not be taken away.
