Quiet in Your Father's Arms

My dear son,

Rest beside your Father for a little while this morning. Like a child resting quietly in a parent's arms, you can remain with me without asking for something greater or proving anything about yourself.

You do not have to keep demonstrating how impressive your accomplishments can be. Admit what you do not know, and calmly tend what is in your care. Peace does not require an answer to every question first.

Set aside the urge to lift yourself above others, and lean on me. You can rest securely in the place where you are loved. Breathe in the quiet for a moment, then go into today's life with me.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 131:1–2

WEB

1LORD, my heart isn’t arrogant, nor my eyes lofty; nor do I concern myself with great matters, or things too wonderful for me.

2Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.

A short reflection

The psalmist turns from pride and matters beyond his reach, quieting his soul like a weaned child resting with its mother.
