Roots Beside the Water

My dear son,

Let your heart stay near my word, like a tree rooted beside the water. A tree receives water through roots hidden from view. Begin your day by slowly reading my word and allowing yourself to think about it.

You do not have to rush through many passages. Consider how what you read might shape a choice or the way you treat someone today. One phrase held in your heart can take a deep and lasting place in your life.

Every tree has its season for fruit, and growth takes time. Do not measure your faith only by what is immediately visible. Your Father delights in seeing you enjoy his word and put down deeper roots.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 1:2–3

WEB

2but his delight is in the LORD’s law. On his law he meditates day and night.

3He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that produces its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither. Whatever he does shall prosper.

A short reflection

The psalm compares those who delight in and meditate on God's instruction to trees planted by streams, bearing fruit in season.
