Looking Toward the Promised Rest
My dear son,
As you rest at the end of the day, I want you to hear the promise of a deeper rest as well. A rest I have prepared remains for my people. It reaches beyond briefly easing fatigue into the rest enjoyed through trusting me.
Live toward that promise with confidence in my word. Instead of following those who abandoned trust and insisted on their own way, receive life where your Father leads. Welcome the love that wants to bring you into rest.
If you have cared for today's responsibilities, you may set them down for a while. Tell me what remains, and leave tomorrow its share. Your Father wants you to live peacefully in faith, both when working and when resting.
With all my love,
Your Father
Hebrews 4:9–11
WEB9There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
10For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.
11Let’s therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience.
A short reflection
Hebrews teaches that a Sabbath rest remains for God's people and urges them to enter it, rather than follow the earlier example of disobedience.
