The Heart of Faith and Love
My dear son,
At the center of the life I desire for you are trust in Jesus and love for one another. Alongside explaining what you believe, the way you treat people matters. I want a tender hand to accompany your confession of faith.
You are not creating that love through your own strength alone. The Spirit I have given is with you, helping you remain in Christ. Tell me freely about your desire to respond to my word and live it out.
Bring me your thanks for any love you gave or received today. If a relationship remains difficult, ask for help. Your Father delights in seeing your faith and love grow together, instead of drifting apart.
With all my love,
Your Father
1 John 3:23–24
WEB23This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.
24He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
A short reflection
First John identifies God's command as believing in Jesus Christ and loving one another, and describes abiding in God through obedience and the assurance given by the Spirit.
