Wisdom That Notices Where Desire Begins
My dear son,
When a desire arises in you, tell me about it honestly. I am not a Father who tries to lure you into evil and make you fall. I do not want desire to draw you toward harm to yourself or others.
Even a small desire can lead to sin if it is allowed to grow unchecked. Noticing early where your heart is going is wisdom that protects you. You may ask for my help as you face what is wrong.
Receive the enjoyment of good things with gratitude. But if something requires taking another person's rightful share, stop and consider it. Tonight, share even your desires with your Father, and rest with an honest heart.
With all my love,
Your Father
James 1:13–15
WEB13Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.
14But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed.
15Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death.
A short reflection
James says God does not tempt anyone to evil, and warns that a person's own desire gives rise to temptation, then sin, and finally death.
