The Prayer of Someone Loved
My dear son,
I love you myself. I am not a reluctant Father who listens only when someone persuades me on your behalf. As you love Jesus and believe that he came from me, I want you to come close and speak freely.
Praying in Jesus' name does not mean making your way through a distant procedure. It means the joyful freedom to share your heart with your Father within the love I have given through my Son.
Call on me in your own words tonight. Small thanks and hopes for tomorrow are welcome. Do not lose sight of your heart while searching for beautiful phrases. I want you to speak comfortably, knowing that you are loved.
With all my love,
Your Father
John 16:25–28
WEB25“I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. But the time is coming when I will no more speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father.
26In that day you will ask in my name; and I don’t say to you that I will pray to the Father for you,
27for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from God.
28I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.”
A short reflection
Jesus tells the disciples that the Father himself loves them because they love Jesus and believe he came from God, and that they will ask in his name.
