The Love That Lasts to the End

My dear son,

I do not want you to live constantly checking how long my love will last. Jesus loved his own to the very end. Even as the time for his departure approached, he did not withdraw that love from them.

I do not want you to come near me only on days when you have done something well. Your laughter on happy days and your little stories on ordinary ones are both precious. Take time to enjoy simply being the child I love.

You do not need to search for achievements to show me this evening. Let your heart rest as you look toward Jesus, who loved you to the end. Your Father wants you to breathe freely and live within the love you have received.

With all my love,
Your Father

A short reflection

As Passover approaches and Jesus knows the time has come to return to the Father, John records that he loves his own in the world to the end.
