Jesus Beside the Tears
My dear son,
When tears need to come, do not focus only on gathering yourself together quickly. Jesus wept when he saw Mary and the others crying. He did more than explain a loved one's sorrow from a safe distance.
I want you to bring me both joy and grief. When someone is crying, you may sit beside them without finding the perfect answer. Love can be present in the time you give simply to being there.
If this evening is peaceful, receive that quiet gratefully. When a day comes on which you need comfort, you may lean on me instead of hiding it alone. I want you to know a Father's love that treats your heart with care.
With all my love,
Your Father
John 11:32–35
WEB32Therefore when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”
33When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit and was troubled,
34and said, “Where have you laid him?” They told him, “Lord, come and see.”
35Jesus wept.
A short reflection
Seeing Mary and the others weeping, Jesus is deeply moved, asks where Lazarus has been laid, and weeps himself.
