The Way That Pleases Your Father
My dear son,
I am glad when you want to know my heart. I treasure your willingness to consider what would please me as you make a choice. I want that desire to arise from love, rather than from anxiously watching for disapproval.
Jesus did not speak merely on his own authority; he passed on what he had received from his Father. Even on the way to being lifted up on the cross, he remained with me and followed my will. Learn that trust gradually.
Tell me about your plans tonight. I welcome your questions about my will and your desire to choose in keeping with love and truth. I want you to share your heart with me as you make the decisions of your life.
With all my love,
Your Father
John 8:28–30
WEB28Jesus therefore said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and I do nothing of myself, but as my Father taught me, I say these things.
29He who sent me is with me. The Father hasn’t left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”
30As he spoke these things, many believed in him.
A short reflection
Jesus says his identity will become known when the Son of Man is lifted up, and explains that he speaks what the Father taught him and remains with the Father.
