Jesus, the Giver of Life
My dear son,
Jesus met the earnest longing of a father who came to him for his son. As the man returned home trusting Jesus' word, news of his son's recovery awaited him. His whole household came to know the love that holds authority over life.
Bring me the circumstances of those you love. You do not need to hide the hopes that grow from caring about someone. You may tell your Father about things to celebrate together and things that call for care.
I want prayer to help you love people more tenderly. Speak the names of those dear to you tonight. You may rest as you entrust their lives to me, rather than trying to hold them in your hands alone.
With all my love,
Your Father
John 4:50–53
WEB50Jesus said to him, “Go your way. Your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way.
51As he was going down, his servants met him and reported, saying “Your child lives!”
52So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. They said therefore to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever left him.”
53So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” He believed, as did his whole house.
A short reflection
A royal official trusts Jesus' word and returns home. Learning that his son recovered at the very hour Jesus spoke, he and his household believe.
