A Place to Tell the Truth
My dear son,
You do not need to arrange your life into a pleasing story before you can speak to me. Jesus knew the woman at the well's history and continued talking with her. I want you to come close with a truthful heart, too.
Do not hide your whole story because one part is difficult to tell. If you do not know where to begin, start slowly with what you can say. I am not a Father who relates to you only through appearances.
Bring your unadorned heart to me tonight. Ask for my help as you face what needs putting right. I want to lead you into a renewed life in truth, rather than turn away when you become honest with me.
With all my love,
Your Father
John 4:16–18
WEB16Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”
17The woman answered, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You said well, ‘I have no husband,’
18for you have had five husbands; and he whom you now have is not your husband. This you have said truly.”
A short reflection
When Jesus asks the woman to bring her husband, she says she has none. He confirms her truthful answer and reveals his knowledge of her past and present relationships.
