Forgiveness That Reaches Your Relationships

My dear son,

I want the heart with which you ask me for forgiveness to shape the way you treat others. Instead of closing the hand that has received mercy, I hope you will be able to pass that love along to a neighbor.

If forgiveness is difficult, do not hide that from me. You may speak honestly about what remains within you, instead of covering it with a tidy answer. I do not want hatred to hold your life in its grip.

Stay close to the mercy I have shown you, rather than spending your days counting another person's wrongs. Tonight, tell me where your heart has come to a standstill. I want love to keep reaching both you and your neighbor.

With all my love,
Your Father

Matthew 6:14–15

14“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

A short reflection

Jesus solemnly teaches that the heavenly Father forgives those who forgive others, but will not forgive those who refuse to forgive another person's wrongs.
