Light on a Lampstand

My dear son,

You would not light a lamp and hide it under a bed. In the same way, I want the words you hear from me to give light to your life. More than memorizing many words, let them shape the way you treat people.

I am the God who brings hidden things into view and makes the truth known. I want you to live honestly, without concealing your heart from me. My light is a light you are welcome to draw near to.

Open your heart to me tonight. You can tell me both what makes you thankful and what you want to put right. As your Father, I gladly welcome your desire to listen carefully to my words and live by them.

With all my love,
Your Father

Mark 4:21–23

WEB

21He said to them, “Is a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed? Isn’t it put on a stand?

22For there is nothing hidden except that it should be made known, neither was anything made secret but that it should come to light.

23If any man has ears to hear, let him hear.”

A short reflection

Using the image of a lamp placed on a stand, Jesus teaches that hidden things will be revealed and urges those with ears to listen.
