Treasuring Both Work and Rest
My dear son,
I do not measure your worth by how late you lie down or how early you rise. I love you when you attend faithfully to your work, and I love you when you rest comfortably. Tonight, make room for your body to sleep.
My care does not end when your eyes close. I am the God who gives grace to those I love even as they sleep. You do not have to believe that your life is sustained only by your own effort.
Set today's work aside for a while and lean close to me. Tell me honestly about what you need for daily life. I hope you enjoy receiving rest as you trust your Father's love.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 127:2
WEB2It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil, for he gives sleep to his loved ones.
A short reflection
The psalm describes the limits of anxious toil without dependence on God and affirms that God provides for those he loves even while they sleep.
