Learning in Every Circumstance

My dear son,

When you have plenty, enjoy what you have received and share it gladly. When you need to spend carefully, you can honestly ask for what you need. In every circumstance, you remain my child, free to tell me what is on your heart.

I do not want your peace to rest entirely on how much you possess. Through the strength Christ gives, you can learn humility in abundance and dependence on me when you have little.

You do not need to compare your situation endlessly with someone else's. Tell me about the help you need and the things you are grateful for. Tonight, let your heart rest here beside me.

With all my love,
Your Father

Philippians 4:11–13

WEB

11Not that I speak because of lack, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content in it.

12I know how to be humbled, and I also know how to abound. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need.

13I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

A short reflection

Paul describes learning to face poverty and abundance, hunger and plenty, through the strength Christ gives him.
