Renewed Beyond What You Can See

My dear son,

What you can see does not tell the whole story of who you are today. Your body changes as time passes, but the person within you can grow new as you learn to love and know me. That growth matters to me.

Whether much or little remains in your hands tonight, the love that lasts forever has not become any smaller. Bring me the care you have shown another person and your desire to live honestly before me.

Please do not let a passing moment become your verdict on your whole life. Hold on to the hope that I am working where you cannot yet see, and let your body and mind rest tonight.

With all my love,
Your Father

2 Corinthians 4:16–18

WEB

16Therefore we don’t faint, but though our outward person is decaying, yet our inward person is renewed day by day.

17For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory,

18while we don’t look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

A short reflection

Paul refuses to lose heart because the inner person is being renewed, and he looks beyond temporary, visible troubles to what is eternal.
