You May Tell Me What You Want

My dear son,

What parent would hand a hungry child a stone when they ask for bread? I am your Father, and I want to give you good things. When you need something, bring me your honest request.

You may ask, seek, and knock at my door. I want to hear what you hope for and consider with you what is good. You can trust my goodness in prayer before deciding exactly what form the answer must take.

Share your hopes freely tonight. A difficult request does not have to be swallowed in silence. You are the child who can speak to your Father. Leave your prayer with me and end the day peacefully.

With all my love,
Your Father

Matthew 7:7–11

7“Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you.

8For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.

9Or who is there among you who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

10Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent?

11If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

A short reflection

Jesus teaches his listeners to ask, seek, and knock, assuring them that the Father gives good things to those who ask him.
