A Heart Growing Quiet
My dear son,
Like a child resting quietly in a parent's arms, you can relax beside me. Tonight, we can simply be together, without needing to ask for more or achieve something else before the day is through.
You need not understand everything beyond your reach before your heart can settle. Let the desire to appear important rest as well. Put your hope in the Father who loves you, and live the life entrusted to you.
Breathe slowly and leave today's thoughts with me. I am with you in the wordless moments, too. In the love that holds you close, let your heart grow quiet and enjoy the rest of this night.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 131:1–3
WEB1LORD, my heart isn’t arrogant, nor my eyes lofty; nor do I concern myself with great matters, or things too wonderful for me.
2Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.
3Israel, hope in the LORD, from this time forward and forever more.
A short reflection
The psalmist refuses pursuits beyond his place, quiets his soul like a weaned child, and calls God's people to hope in him.
