A Song to Sing Again

My dear son,

Imagine the relief of stepping out of deep mud onto solid rock. I am the Father who takes hold of my children and helps them stand again. When you need help, you can call to me with your whole heart.

Remember the help you have received from me and share a song of thanks. I want to hear the joy of a new song on your lips. Tell me about the waiting, too, and the prayers that came before the song.

Tonight, take time to recall the hands that helped you. Express your gratitude, then rest. Spend the close of this day beside your Father, the rock on whom you can depend.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 40:1–3

WEB

1I waited patiently for the LORD. He turned to me, and heard my cry.

2He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand.

3He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God. Many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

A short reflection

The psalmist recounts how God heard his cry, lifted him from the mire, set his feet securely, and gave him a new song.
