A Heart Opened by Confession

My dear son,

I hope tonight will bring relief from preparing another explanation to hide a wrong. If something troubles your conscience, tell me honestly. Rely on your Father's mercy as you find the courage to speak the truth.

The way to me is open when you come with a confession. I forgive sin and want you to live rightly again. I do not want to keep you close by endlessly calling you a shameful name.

Let us look calmly at what needs to be put right. Ask me for strength to act responsibly as someone forgiven. Tonight, rest beside me with the comfort of having no need to hide the truth.

With all my love,
Your Father

Psalms 32:3–5

WEB

3When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.

4For day and night your hand was heavy on me. My strength was sapped in the heat of summer. Selah.

5I acknowledged my sin to you. I didn’t hide my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the LORD, and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

A short reflection

The psalmist describes suffering while concealing his sin and receiving forgiveness when he acknowledged and confessed it to God.
