Sleeping and Waking in My Care
My dear son,
Your day includes hours of busy activity and hours when you lie still in sleep. I value both. Tonight, I want you to feel my tenderness as you stop working and lie down to rest.
I sustain you while you are awake and while you are asleep. Even when you are doing nothing, you can rely on me. Release the thought that you must fill every moment with your own effort.
My care reaches into the familiar rhythm of sleeping and waking. Receive today's breath and time with gratitude. Now let your body settle comfortably, and entrust the night to your Father, the one who sustains your life.
With all my love,
Your Father
Psalms 3:5
WEB5I laid myself down and slept. I awakened, for the LORD sustains me.
A short reflection
The psalmist credits God's sustaining care for being able to lie down, sleep, and wake again.
