Pause Before You Speak
My dear son,
Give the people you meet today room to finish speaking. If you are already preparing your reply, part of their story may pass you by. Listening well can communicate how deeply you value someone.
Even when you have much to say, take a moment to breathe. Especially when you feel angry, do not let that feeling immediately take charge of your words. Speak to me first, and consider what you truly want to convey.
I am not asking you to hide your thoughts. I want you to express them honestly without wounding each other. Be generous in listening and thoughtful in responding today. Your Father is listening to you, too.
With all my love,
Your Father

A short reflection
James urges believers to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.
