Service around the Table
My dear son,
When you share a meal or a task, acknowledge the work others do. Look for what your own hands can contribute, beyond deciding who deserves to be served. A small act of help can carry sincere care.
Jesus stood among his disciples as one who served. Keep his example close even when you lead other people. Make requests respectfully, and take your own share of work that belongs to everyone.
When help comes to you, receive it gladly and say thank you. Protect one another's dignity in both serving and being served. Your Father hopes the role you hold today will become an opportunity to love people.
With all my love,
Your Father
Luke 22:26–27
WEB26But not so with you. Rather, the one who is greater among you, let him become as the younger, and one who is governing, as one who serves.
27For who is greater, one who sits at the table, or one who serves? Isn’t it he who sits at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
A short reflection
During the disciples' dispute over status, Jesus teaches that leaders should serve, pointing to his own presence among them as one who serves.
