The Love That Welcomes You Home

My dear son,

I want you to know the heart of a father who sees his returning child far away and runs to embrace him. If you recognize wrong in your life, do not postpone coming to me. Bring honesty instead of prepared excuses.

I want you to live beside me again. Like the father who gives the returning child a robe and ring and prepares a feast, I want to share the joy of return. Do not declare yourself permanently excluded from love.

Begin this morning depending on my mercy and seeking the right path. Accept responsibility, offer needed apologies, and start again. Draw close to the embrace of the Father who welcomes your return.

With all my love,
Your Father

Luke 15:20–24

WEB

20“He arose and came to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion, and ran, fell on his neck, and kissed him.

21The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

22“But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.

23Bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let’s eat and celebrate;

24for this, my son, was dead and is alive again. He was lost and is found.’ Then they began to celebrate.

A short reflection

In Jesus' parable, the father runs to embrace his repentant returning son, welcomes him back into the family, and celebrates.
