Considering Where Your Trust Belongs

My dear son,

I value your faithful attention to the practical needs of life. At the same time, I hope you do not believe that possessions alone must keep every day secure. Enjoy being a child who can live in dependence on me.

Some trust their wealth like a high wall. I want my name to be a strong tower you can run to and call upon. May the joy of knowing me deepen in your heart. Trust your Father's love and tell me your story.

Tonight, set aside what you have prepared and rest comfortably. Ask honestly for needed help. Live with me, rather than exhausting yourself trying to guard every wall alone.

With all my love,
Your Father

Proverbs 18:10–11

WEB

10The LORD’s name is a strong tower: the righteous run to him, and are safe.

11The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, like an unscalable wall in his own imagination.

A short reflection

Proverbs portrays the Lord's name as a strong tower where the righteous find refuge, alongside the wealthy person's view of riches as an imagined high wall.
