Treating Another Person's Name with Care
My dear son,
When you speak someone's name, remember their worth. A precious relationship lasts longer than an entertaining story. As I care for you, I want you to treat another person's life with the same tenderness.
Crooked words can spread like fire and divide even close friends. Pause before repeating a story you have not confirmed. I will be glad to see you become someone who speaks truthfully and protects peace.
Tonight, pray for the people who remain in your thoughts. If you passed along something wrong, correct it honestly. I want your lips to help people understand one another instead of drawing them apart. Let care for their names shape what you choose to say.
With all my love,
Your Father
Proverbs 16:27–28
WEB27A worthless man devises mischief. His speech is like a scorching fire.
28A perverse man stirs up strife. A whisperer separates close friends.
A short reflection
Proverbs likens the speech of someone plotting evil to a scorching fire and warns that dishonest words and gossip stir conflict and separate close friends.
