Learning Love Patiently

My dear son,

I treasure watching you learn to love, little by little. A patient tone and a kind glance can carry love. I hope the tenderness you have received from your Father will bring joy into your daily life.

Listen to another person with room for their interests as well as your own. Ask for a heart that can remain patient with people while refusing to celebrate wrongdoing. Love finds its expression in truthful care.

If someone comes to mind who deserves your thanks, speak kindly. Prepare an honest apology if one is needed. You need not become perfect in one day. Rest within my love and receive strength to be kind again.

With all my love,
Your Father

1 Corinthians 13:4–7

WEB

4Love is patient and is kind. Love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud,

5doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil;

6doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;

7bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.

A short reflection

Paul describes love as patient and kind, teaching that it does not seek its own interests or delight in wrongdoing.
