Where the Branch Receives Life

My dear son,

As a branch receives life by remaining on the vine, remain in Jesus. Before counting the fruit, enjoy the relationship through which life is shared. I want you to know the goodness of staying close.

Listen to my word and share your heart as you learn to bear good fruit. Speak of your gratitude and your hopes while depending on Jesus. Just as a branch cannot live apart from the vine, your life needs the life he gives.

Tonight, be with me awhile without needing another achievement. Slowly read a passage that stays with you. Enjoy receiving the life that sustains you, and rest beside your loving Father.

With all my love,
Your Father

John 15:4–5

4Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can’t bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.

5I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

A short reflection

Jesus compares himself to a vine and his disciples to branches, teaching that they must remain in him to bear fruit.
