Close to Those Who Mourn

Even on a sorrowful day, you are my child, welcome to receive comfort. You do not have to approach me as though nothing hurts. I want to sit beside the child who cries and listen to what is in their heart.

You need not compare your pain with anyone else's to earn the right to speak. Tears in my presence are nothing to be ashamed of. You may stay quietly even when you cannot explain everything.

If tonight is peaceful, enjoy that peace. When you meet someone who is sad, stay beside them without hurrying them toward a smile. My comforting love is close to you both.
