The Courage to Answer Gently

My dear son,

When you need to answer someone today, consider your tone and choice of words. The same message can lead to a different conversation depending on how you deliver it. Let gentleness carry what you truly mean.

Another person's harshness does not require an equally sharp response from you. Remove words that add fuel to anger, and say clearly what needs saying. Gentleness can leave your convictions fully intact.

If emotion rises first, tell your Father what you feel. You can breathe for a moment and return to the conversation. Ask me for strength to speak with respect. I will be glad to see you bring calm into today's conversations.

With all my love,
Your Father
