Gratitude That Notices the Work

My dear son,

Take a kind look at who is working to care for your shared life. The hands that prepare, teach, and give attention can become so familiar that their work seems automatic. Notice and value the love within those efforts.

Thanking the people who help you learn faith is an act of love, too. Mutual respect helps peace grow in a community. I want your words and attitudes to strengthen one another and make your life together more generous.

Tell me tonight about an effort you remember with gratitude. If you have an opinion to share, you may speak honestly and kindly. May the care with which you recognize people's worth become an encouragement to those beside you.

With all my love,
Your Father

12But we beg you, brothers, to know those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you,

13and to respect and honor them in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.

A short reflection

Paul asks believers to recognize those who work among them, lead, and offer correction, to esteem them lovingly for their work, and to live at peace with one another.
