The Good Shepherd's Faithful Care

My dear son,

I did not call you into a love that keeps you close only while you are useful. Jesus is the good shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep. He does not abandon them and run when danger appears.

Look at that shepherd's heart when you consider my love. You are not someone to be discarded once you are no longer needed. Your place is within a love that considered you precious enough to give its own life.

This evening, you need not calculate what you must offer first. Receive fully the love that cares for you. Rest as a beloved child, and let knowing that love help you offer your own faithful presence to another person.

With all my love,
Your Father

John 10:11–13

WEB

11“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

12He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who doesn’t own the sheep, sees the wolf coming, leaves the sheep, and flees. The wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them.

13The hired hand flees because he is a hired hand and doesn’t care for the sheep.

A short reflection

Jesus calls himself the good shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep, unlike a hired worker who abandons them when danger comes.
